Newsletter n°3

This Saturday, Valpic June 21 at Guarda Golf will see the arrival of Mr. Jean-Marie Viaccoz, Prefect of the District of Sierre (to which the Haut-Plateau belongs), who will explain the role of this institution, whose history goes back to the “Dizains” (see our article “Les Dizains en Valais”), and that of the “Conférence des Présidents”. We all know the role of the Communes and the Canton, typically because we pay our taxes to them. We got to know the Association des Communes de Crans-Montana (ACCM) a little better through the presentation of the Intercommunal Master Plan by its General Secretary Yves-Roger Rey at the Valpic Saturday on April 26. On June 21, Valpic will raise the curtain on the “stars”, the 13 stars that appear on the flag of Valais, the 13 districts of our Canton, and in particular the district of Sierre, to which we belong.

This presentation will be complemented by a talk from Pascal Bovey, a consulting engineer working on new public transport infrastructures planned for our District. He will tell us what is “in the pipeline” and what concerns us directly.

With Valpic, you’re at the heart of the dialogue that’s shaping our future on the Haut-Plateau.

Professor Bernard Lugan’s conference on Africa’s Great Lakes region

Professor Bernard Lugan honored us with his insights into the Africa of the Great Lakes, this Saturday June 7 in the auditorium of the Opale Foundation. Rwanda and the Kivu region, which have been in the news for over 30 years, invited us to take a closer look at a problem rooted in the long history of these regions and their peoples. Professor Lugan was able to share his most recent work on the mechanisms driving this part of Africa, where the stakes are not limited to foreign influences for the control of its resources, with a well-informed audience.

To extend your knowledge of the whole of Africa with Professor Lugan, find his website, newsletters and over 30 of his books at https://bernardlugan.blogspot.com

Agenda :

The last 2 Valpic Saturdays of the year are shaping up to be highlights: the Valpic Saturday on November 15 will feature a comprehensive and unique presentation on water infrastructures on the Haut-Plateau, with 2 personalities very much involved in current and future projects: Olivier Duchoud, President of Icogne, and Yves Rey, the engineer who designed the Lienne-Raspille project, undoubtedly the major project for our region in the current century. Icogne may be the smallest commune on the Haut-Plateau in terms of population (634), but it is nevertheless the “Tibet” of the Haut-Plateau, as it controls most of the water we use, not to mention the hydroelectricity that goes with it…

The last Valpic Saturday on December 20 will kick off with a new show that we’ll be unveiling gradually. This will be followed by our Annual General Meeting.

For these events, we needed a venue worthy of Valpic. So we’re going to the Ecole des Roches in Bluche, which provides us with a top-class infrastructure and team, commensurate with the excellence with which it has become the world’s2nd leading hotel school.
